Otumfuo has done some fantastic work on Bawku dispute – Chieftaincy Minister

The government has expressed confidence in the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to do whatever it takes to help resolve the Bawku chieftaincy dispute to bring peace to the troubled area.

This comes after renewed violence in the area which has led to the death of 16 people, and a dusk to dawn curfew imposed on the town.

The Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng said at a news conference in Accra on Tuesday, October 29 that Otumfuo has so far done some fantastic work in an attempt to get the warring factions to smoke the peace pipe but the expected result is yet to be realized.

Mediation
In 2022, the government contacted the Asantehene to use his mediation acumen to help bring peace to Bawku.

Since then the Asantehene has met the chiefs and some opinion leaders of the factions – Kusasis and Mamprusis – at the Manhyia Palace but it appears the mediation has hit a snag.

Commencement
During a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace by the leadership of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on June 14, 2022, the King said “We are still on the Bawku dispute. I have called the parties. With patience and peace, I have given them all the platform to make their case. I’m yet to meet both factions together. When we meet all of them, each person will make his case so that we figure out the truth.

“When we meet all, the dispute will be settled. I have told the parties to put down their weapons so we use truth to settle it.”
