The running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has stated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the best choice for Ghana in the upcoming December elections.
During a meeting with the NPP’s TESCON group at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on November 19, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, known as Napo, emphasized Bawumia’s strong and practical ideas to tackle the issues facing the youth. He encouraged everyone to work hard for the NPP’s success in the 2024 elections.
He said, “The future is not just for me or Dr. Bawumia; he will guide you into it. Think about who truly cares for your well-being. Elections are about your future.”
Napo also criticized the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) for their complaint to the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) regarding perceived unfairness in the Free Senior High School programme.
The private schools argue that the government’s policy of reserving 30% of placements in top senior high schools for public school students is unfair to them. However, during his talk with UPSA students, Napo rejected the private schools’ claims.
He remarked, “I heard that the Ghana National Association of Private Schools plans to go to court against the Free SHS for giving 30%t of placements to underprivileged public-school students. What nerve! When I introduced this 30% for fairness, it was not a new idea; it was already in place but misused by the privileged.”
