The Ghana Immigration Service, in a major swoop, has picked up over 2,241 foreign beggars from various strategic locations in Accra.

The operation resulted in the apprehension of 384 adult males, 525 adult females, 577 male children, and 755 female children from eleven locations across the capital.

Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, May 16, the Head of Public Relations, Michael Amoako-Atta, announced that buses have been made available to transport the individuals back to their respective countries after profiling is completed.

The swoop, which was conducted on Friday morning, targeted areas such as Kotoka International Airport, Madina, Kaneshie, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and Abossey Okai.

“As we speak, we have arrested 2,241 foreign nationals, made up of 384 male adults, 577 male children, 525 female adults, and 755 female children. All these persons are currently undergoing profiling,” he stated.

These measures, according to the Immigration Service, are part of efforts to avert any perceived national security threats.
