Don’t Plunge Berekum Into Disturbances – Otumfuo

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for peace in Berekum in the Bono Region as efforts are made to find a successor to the late Omanhene, Daasebre Amankona Diawuo II. “Berekum is my town, it is known for its peace so it is not now that there should be any disturbances there,” he said.

His Majesty stated this when parties to the dispute appeared before him during the Asanteman Council meeting on Monday, August 19, 2024. The dispute emanated from the nomination of a candidate by the queenmother, Nana Akosua Amenyaahene III, which has been challenged by the Korasohene Nana Boakye Amankwaah III and the people of Mpatapo.

Contention
The people of Mpatapo alleged that they have been sidelined by the queenmother in nominating a candidate, even though they are royals. Nana Amenyaahene however insisted that they have no right to the stool any longer.

Tradition
After listening to the parties, Otumfuo called for calm , assuring that the truth will surely come out.
“We will follow tradition to enstool a chief and there will be lasting peace in Berekum,“ the Asantehene assured.

The parties will reappear at the Asanteman Council on Monday, August 26, 2024.
