Fiifi Tackie, spokesperson for the Ayew family, has criticized Black Stars head coach Otto Addo over his remarks on Andre Ayew’s place in the national team.
Addo, in an interview with Joy Sports, stated that Ayew has fallen down the pecking order despite his performances for French club Le Havre.
This was after he omitted the attacker from his squad for the recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers victories against Chad and Madagascar.
Tackie expressed disappointment over the coach’s stance, questioning the exclusion of Ghana’s most-capped player.
“Coach Otto Addo’s comments on Andre Ayew are shocking and disappointing. He has always emphasized active club participation as a key selection criterion. How can Ayew, a three-time World Cup veteran and proven leader, be overlooked despite playing well?” Tackie wrote on Facebook.
He further argued that the remarks disrespected Ayew’s contributions to the national team.
“Ayew’s legacy and commitment to the Black Stars are undeniable. His experience and leadership in major tournaments speak volumes. It is baffling that a coach who failed to qualify Ghana for AFCON 2025 would dismiss such a player,” he added.
“Such remarks are not only disrespectful but also undermine his sacrifices. Coach Addo’s comments are unprofessional and unbecoming of someone in his position.”
