Akufo-Addo condemns pastors who told Christians not to vote for Muslim as Prez.

President Akufo-Addo has criticized a so-called man of God who advised Christians against voting for a Muslim candidate for President.

This comes after Reverend Yaw Owusu Ansah, the Accra West Regional Overseer of the Resurrection Power and Living Bread Ministries International, revealed that some Ghanaian pastors were plotting against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, based on his religion.

During a recent Adom Ahengua programme on Adom FM, Rev. Owusu-Ansah shared a concerning discussion from a well-known WhatsApp group of prominent Ghanaian pastors.

An unnamed pastor, described as respected and influential, reportedly encouraged his peers to oppose Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy simply because he is a Muslim.

The pastor suggested that it would be a “privilege” for their congregations not to support a Muslim leader.

Owusu-Ansah, who did not reveal the pastor’s identity, criticized this message as “childish” and “divisive.”

He expressed his views passionately during a live session, emphasizing that such attitudes do not reflect Ghana’s diverse religious community. “This approach is not only misguided but deeply childish,” he stated.

“I have seen how Muslims can engage with the gospel without their faith being a barrier. Why can’t we extend the same respect to a Muslim leader?”

While he did not name the pastor, there is speculation that it is a well-known Christian leader from a large church in Dzorwulu.

At a rally in Legon, President Akufo-Addo also condemned the pastor’s remarks, saying, “Sadly, yesterday a pastor told his congregation that they should not vote for Dr. Bawumia because he is a Muslim.”

“No Pastor should sow seeds of discord among Ghanaians by making “provocative religious statement, “he added.

The President said both Christians and Muslims had been living in peace and harmony, therefore, Ghanaians should not allow anyone to divide the nation on religious lines.
