Finance Minister Urges MPs to Back Key Policies in 2025 Budget for Sustainable Growth

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson has appealed to Members of Parliament (MPs) to support the passage of the 2025 budget estimates, emphasising its crucial role in implementing key economic policies aimed at fostering growth.

Speaking at the three-day Post Budget Workshop held in Parliament House, Accra for MPs, Dr. Forson highlighted several transformational measures in the budget, including the Big Push Initiative, a GH¢10 billion policy aimed at driving economic growth; establishment of the Ghana Gold Board to support foreign exchange inflows and gold reserve accumulation.

He also cited the Agriculture for Economic Transformation, where he explained had the goal to promote agricultural growth and development.

Dr. Forson emphasised the importance of Parliamentary support, stating, “Mr. Speaker, we have outlined a number of revenue and expenditure measures in the 2025 budget to support the achievement of our fiscal objectives and targets. And we would like to call on this esteemed House, particularly my colleagues, the Members of Parliament, to support these measures and the passage of the various legislations that will operationalise the measures as soon as possible.”

The Minister also outlined key initiatives designed to drive sustainable economic growth, including the 24-hour economy policy, aimed at supporting inclusive growth and job creation; Ghana Gold Board, to support foreign exchange inflows and gold reserve accumulation.

Dr. Forson’s appeal comes as Parliament is set to debate the budget on Tuesday March 18 with expectations for bipartisan support to facilitate the government’s economic agenda.
