“Bawumia nie, alawa nie” – nursing trainees throw support for Bawumia

Nursing trainees at Korle-Bu and Pantang went on a chant of “NPP nie, alawa nie, Bawumia nie, alawa nie” as they welcomed vice presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Dr Prempeh, affectionately known as Napo, was at the Korle-Bu Nursing and Midwifery Training College, and the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College to campaign.

Cancelation and restoration
The nursing training allowance that was cancelled under John Mahama was restored by the NPP in 2017.

According to the students, NPP is the only party that will protect the nursing trainee allowance and therefore, had every reason to root for the party in the elections. “We want alawa and so we won’t risk voting for John Mahama the same man who canceled it,” the students declared.

Mahama’s tricks
Dr Prempeh admonished nursing and teacher trainees to be wary of the tricks of John Mahama, saying the NDC presidential candidate has nothing good for them because he will cancel the allowances they are enjoying. “I want you all to continue to tell NDC that we prefer the allowance more than his sweet stories. So if you want your allowance to continue, you have only one option, on December 7, you know what to do,” he stated.

Nurses welfare
Emphasising the crucial role nurses play in healthcare delivery, he said a Bawumia-led NPP government would introduce policies aimed at improving the livelihoods of nurses. “The NPP recognizes and appreciates the key roles that our nurses play in the provision of healthcare to the people, so we shall also make sure that your lives will be better,” he stated.

Napo reiterated that nurses in Ghana will be able to import vehicles with engine capacities of less than 1.8 litres duty-free if Dr Bawumia becomes President in 2025. “Dr Bawumia, the incoming President of Ghana, will provide free duty on vehicles with engine capacities less than 1.8 capacity for nurses”, he told the cheering students.

Agenda 111
On the Agenda 111 hospitals initiative, Dr Prempeh emphasised that the projects would boost healthcare infrastructure and create employment opportunities for nurses and other healthcare workers.
