The vice-presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has made a significant impact by donating essential food and educational supplies to 20 orphanages in the Ashanti Region.
The donation included rice, cooking oil, mackerel sardines, and tomato paste. Known as “Dr. Napo,” he also provided exercise books, pencils, and pens for the children in these homes.
Nana Timah Boakye, the deputy CEO of the Petroleum Hub, delivered the items on Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s behalf during a brief ceremony at Heroes Park in the Kumasi Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 22.
In her speech, Nana Timah highlighted Dr. Prempeh’s dedication to helping orphanages. “This donation shows that Dr. Opoku Prempeh cares for these children. Of the 20 orphanages receiving support today, 16 are ones he has helped every three months. He added four more homes this time to reach even more children.”
Ama Konadu, the NPP women’s organizer for the Subin Constituency, expressed her appreciation for Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s kindness.
“We are grateful to Dr. Napo for choosing Subin for this distribution. It reflects his commitment to both the orphanages and people with disabilities in our community.”
Evangelist Akwasi Donkor, a well-known radio preacher in Kumasi, also commended Dr. Prempeh’s work.
“Helping children and people with disabilities should be a priority for all politicians. I encourage others to follow Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s example and assist those in need.”
Representatives from the 20 beneficiary institutions expressed their sincere thanks, noting the positive impact of such donations.
They prayed for the NPP’s success in the upcoming elections, hoping Dr. Opoku Prempeh can continue his support for the children in the future.
Margaret Donkor, a 16-year-old PWD from the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre, shared her gratitude, saying, “Thank you, Dr. Napo, for your continuous kindness to our institution. It truly makes a difference in our lives.”
Kingsley Boadu, a 12-year-old boy from the Cherub Orphanage, could not hide his excitement upon seeing the food items. “I was so happy to see all the food. Thank you for thinking of us” he said.
The total donation included 2,000 pieces of 5 kg rice, 2,040 litres of cooking oil, and 2,400 pieces of mackerel sardines.
Additionally, Dr Napo, a former Minister of Education, donated 10,000 exercise books, 1,000 pencils, and 1,000 pens to the children at the orphanages, ensuring they had the necessary tools for their education
